Bee Removals from Pretoria
Pretoria is known as the Jacaranda City and for reasons that are plain to see. Every year just as Spring starts the Jacaranda trees bloom and Pretoria from a distance looks like a sea made up of shades of purple from lilac to lavendar.
With this many trees all flowering at once the number of bees that find their way to the city and its surrounding suburbs will be staggering.
Bees Nesting
Bees need somewhere to nest, the queen needs to begin laying as soon as possible in order to keep the colony strong, and honey needs to be made to feed the bees and the new larvae.
Pretoria has many trees in which the bees will rest and if they find a hollow tree it will most certainly make an inviting place to settle in. But, there are more bee colonies than hollow trees so they will move into the suburbs of Pretoria and begin to build hive where they find a suitable space.
Places in Pretoria that will make ideal hives for bees
Much like the suburbs anywhere else in South Africa bees in Pretoria will be attracted to gardens which provide them with food and enough peace to start buildng a hive.
Pretoria is generally warmer by a few degrees than the rest of the Gauteng province so in the search for a quiet shady spot bees can be found:
- Under the eaves of a house
- In airbrick, especially in the older suburbs of Pretoria where are brick was used during construction
- Swimming pool pump housings
- And on construction sites: all the hollow pipes and containers that may be lying aroung waiting to be discarded or parts of construction that are complete and waiting for the next phase to begin
- Places that have water that the bees can access, also encourage bees to settle nearby.
What to do if you find a bee-hive
Bees in Pretoria are pretty much the same as Bees in Johannesburg so the general rules remain the same.
- Do not try to remove the bees yourself
- Do not try to exterminate the bees in any way
- Keep animals and children indoors, or well clear of the site where the bee hive is
- Call a professional bee remover to remove the bees humanely. Thereby ensuring the safety of all concerned including the bees.
