Bee Removals from airbricks in Emmarentia

Emmarentia is a well established suburb of Johannesburg and we do a fair number of bee removals there. Most of the bee removals in Emmarentia are airbrick jobs. Why? Because Emmarentia was built quite a long time ago, when Johannesburg was booming in the early 1900s. The airbricks that were installed have perished somewhat and the bees can find entrances through these airbricks. Our standard technique is to remove the old airbrick, remove the bees, and then replace the airbrick with a new one.

The photo below is where we removed the airbrick from a house in Emmarentia to access the bees, then inserted a new airbrick. We prefer cement airbricks, which are then modified with a steel mesh to prevent bees from getting in again. We have tested different types of mesh and the steel one is the best. Despite not having teeth, bees somehow manage to "chew" through fly screen.
